All About Craft Guide

Craft Guide is what we use in MadMartian Mod for determining how to make stuff. It provides all the recipes used by machines in the mod and also the recipes to make those machines. It also includes recipes for brewing potions.

Configure the Key Mapping

The first thing to do to use Craft Guide is to make sure that you have the correct shortcut key assigned so that you can bring it up easily.

1. Open your key mappings by hitting Esc to go to the main menu, then Options then Controls...
2. Scroll down to Miscellaneous, Open CraftGuide should be the first one listed
3. Make sure the shortcut is set, if it is red as depicted below, then you must change it otherwise Minecraft won't open it and you'll be really confused and flip the table over. In this case we recommend you change it to the F4 key.

Opening Craft Guide

There are a few different ways to open Craft Guide, the most straightforward way is to press the shortcut key described in the previous section. Craft Guide looks something like this when first opened:

The way Craft Guide works is that if you want more information on an item that you see just click on it and it will refresh the window with recipes related to that item you clicked.

Select by Hover

If you want to find out the recipe for a specific item then hover your mouse over the item in your inventory and then press the Craft Guide key.

Machine Recipes

If you want to find out what recipes are available for a specific machine (e.g. a quern, crafting table, saw bench, etc.) rather than how to make the machine itself, then flip the checkboxes:

1. Uncheck both the Input and Output checkboxes
2. Check the Machine checkbox

You should now see recipes available to the machine instead of the recipe for crafting the machine:

Search for Recipes

If you know the name of a recipe ingredient, or you want to know the recipe to make some item and you know what that item is called, then you can search for it by typing the name into a text field.

You'll start to see some ingredients (and products) matching the text in the window above.

At this point you can press enter to reveal everything that matches your query, or if you want to see the recipes that produce (or are produced by) an item in the search results in the picture above, then you can click on it there.

Searching for Something Else

When you are finished searching, or if you want to search for something else, then there are two steps:

1. Click on the Clear button
2. Then click on the Set item button

If you see a Back button then you're ready to search for something new.
